The past tense of regular verbs is formed by adding '-ed' to the simple form of the verb. |

| When the simple form of the verb ends in 'y' preceded by a consonant, the 'y' is changed to i before adding '-ed.' | |||

| The past tense of irregular verbs is different. Many verbs in English have special past tense forms. You must memorize these forms. They are the same for all persons in the past tense. | |||
